Background

  • In recent years, the obesity rate has been increasing globally, with projections pointing to a staggering 1 billion obese individuals by 2030.
  • Young adults are particularly susceptible, as they often have busy lifestyles, prioritize convenience over health, and consume unhealthy choices.

Why this matters?

Obesity is a major public health challenge that increases the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and certain cancers. The rising obesity among young adults is a cause for concern, as it poses a threat to their current health and increases their risk of developing chronic diseases in the future.

Discovery Phase

To better understand the problem space, I started with:

  • Competitor Analysis: Benchmarked apps like Google Maps, Farmey, Wanderlog, and TripIt to identify gaps and best practices.
  • User Research: Conducted interviews and surveys to learn how people plan and share their trips.
  • Card Sorting: Helped define the information architecture based on user mental models.

Key Insight

Users were excited about planning trips but often gave up midway due to complexity and lack of guidance.

What is the company's vision?

A social plataform for people to connect

Kiwi is committed to fostering connections among individuals from diverse backgrounds. They recognize that in today's fast-paced world, meaningful relationships often take a backseat. This is why they want to developed a social platform that promotes genuine interactions and community building. Their goal is to create a space where people can share their stories, interests, and experiences, making it easier to connect with like-minded individuals. By bringing together shared passions and values, they strive to cultivate a supportive environment that enhances personal growth and strengthens social ties.

Provide help with experts

At Kiwi, they recognize that navigating the world of nutrition can feel daunting. That's why they are thrilled to provide expert guidance tailored to individual needs. Their team of certified nutritionists is ready to assist clients in achieving their health goals, whether it's losing weight, boosting energy, or simply improving eating habits.

Our Goals

Empower Young Adults to Make Healthier Choices

Empower young adults to make healthier food choices and lead a more active lifestyle by providing them with the information and resources they need to succeed.

Provide an good experience

We see many calorie tracking apps and healthy cooking apps, but sometimes they can be a bit confusing and overwhelming with too many options or complicate screens. Our goal is for users to feel at ease when using Kiwi, because being on a diet or food plan is already stressful enough.

Increase Awareness of Nutritional Value

Raise awareness of the importance of healthy eating habits and the nutritional value of different foods.

Research

I surveyed 58 people (ages 21-30) who have full time jobs.

70% of survey respondents cook for two people

25% of respondents do not care about the nutritional value of their food

74% of respondents do not follow a specific food plan or diet

31% of respondents drink less than 1 liter of water per day.

67% said they only have 30 minutes a day to prepare meals, which leads to a reliance on pre-made or delivered food

Information Architecture

I designed an information architecture to effectively arrange and categorize the content, making it easier for users to understand and navigate, enhancing overall usability and accessibility.

Main User Flow

To outline all necessary functionality, I created a simple flow diagram for the main task the user can do.

Scenario: User wants to cook a delicious meal

Crazy 8's & Paper Wireframes

We need it a lot of quick and easy way to image the app

Wireframes

Final Product

Creating a trip used to feel like filling out a long government form: every traveller faced the same linear questionnaire, had to decide the destination up-front, and saw no benefit until the very end. Completion rate hovered at 42 % and the average set-up time was 3 min 20 s.

Below is the narrative of the redesign and the specific UX moves that changed the outcome.
